French Grace and Russian Magnificence/Marius Petipa on Slovak ballet stages
On 20 December 2017, at 3pm, the exhibition French Grace and Russian Magnificence/Marius Petipa on Slovak Ballet Stages was made accessible in the historical building of the Slovak National Theatre.
The following opening of the exhibition took place on 11 March 2018 at 5:30pm in the new building of the Slovak National Theatre – on the 200th anniversary of the birthday of Marius Petipa.
Curators Monika Čertezni and Eva Gajdošová used sixteen exhibition panels to briefly capture the history of the ballet work of Marius Petipa from St. Petersburg and Moscow.
The criterion used to select the photographs was to what extent they were capturing the interpretational generations of Slovak ballet artists, as well as the aesthetic and technical-interpretational of ballet art. The individual production panels were supplemented by stage and costume design models – the majority of materials came from the choreographies of Marius Petipa at the Slovak National Theatre and the State Theatre in Košice.
